The company was established in 1969 to import quality consumer electronic goods from the Far East and distribute them throughout the UK. Following deregulation of the telecoms market in 1984, the company decided to focus entirely on telephones.
In 1988 the company was fully listed on the London Stock Exchange.
In 1996/7 the company purchased Amstrad Consumer Electronics, acquiring the brands Amstrad, Fidelity, Integra and Sinclair.
The company can now offer an extensive range of consumer electronics products under an umbrella of famous brand names.
Betacom has an office in Hong Kong, which is used to locally control all purchasing and quality control and ensure excellent liaison between the UK and the Far East.
In recent years, the company has established export markets in Europe, Scandinavia, Africa and the Middle East.
