If trouble- shooting is needed, Harrier's protocol analysis capability is invaluable and fully integrated. One tester for all applications, the Harrier can be connected to any PC in terminal emulation mode via the (optional) special serial lead. In this configuration, the tester functions can be controlled via the PC keyboard (Terminal Mode), or the Harrier can be set to output a full hex and message type decode trace (Decode Mode) or output the contents of the events log (Events Mode). The Harrier incorporates a serial port and flash memory with plenty of spare capacity to incorporate many extra features. The Harrier will automatically store time stamped test Events equivalent to 300 lines of information for output to a printer or PC.

Transmission via the handset microphone is not possible in this mode. Volume Boost allows the user to increase the sound output of the loudspeaker when working in high noise environments. Indication for TALK and Monitor operating modes is provided by means of flashing Light Emitting Diodes. The DigAlert™ Digital Lockout & Alarm alerts the user to the presence of inaudible signals (digital traffic) on a cable pair when attempting to go "Off Hook" with a distinctive sound. To help identification of the signal that is present on the line under test, the audio monitor is active during the intervals between tones. DigAlert™ High Voltage Lockout & Alarm. A check is also made for the presence of voltages likely to cause harm to the Test Telephone or the user. In this case the alarm tone changes to a different sound. This feature cannot be overridden.

The TALK 2 is a compact talk-and-ring unit that can provide telephone system - like operation over idle, unused and even damaged wiring. Butt-in test sets equipped with TALK 2 can call each other over any wire pair - Category 3, Category 5, barbed wire - any two conductors. TALK 2 provides talking battery and power ringing from a sturdy, compact package. There is a pair of terminals for the butt-in test set and a pair for the line. To make a call, go'off hook' and press ring - its as simple as that. A phone or test set connected at the far end of the wire line will ring alerting anyone there to a call.

The Chesilvale S-bus Wiring ANalyser (SWAN) is a two part system comprising a transmitter and a receiver for diagnosing wiring problems such as crossed wires, open circuits and short circuits in cables consisting of up to eight wires. It can also be used for indicating and measuring ISDN (S interface) power sources. The cable under test is connected to the transmitter unit via its eight-way RJ45 socket, while connection to the receiver unit can be via its eight-way RJ45 plug or the plug-in sockets. The SWAN is powered from a nine volt battery fitted in the transmitter unit, and will provide at least 100 hours of testing if an alkaline type is used.
