Trafficmaster

Trafficmaster Plc is a young dynamic British company which has already established itself as the commercial world leader in the field of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). It was set up in 1988 by its Chief Executive, David Martell and Non-Executive Director, Ian Williams. Using state of the art technology, the company created the first ever live traffic information system. In 1992, following a successful pilot programme, Trafficmaster was awarded a 12 year licence, now extended to 2006, by the Department of Transport (DoT) to operate its service on motorways and over 400 miles of trunk roads. In 1995, Trafficmaster launched two new in-car traffic information systems, YQ and Trafficmate, both of which give live information using their infrastructure of motorway sensors. Trafficmate has subsequently been replaced by Freeway, offering better design and better voice quality and allowing for greater flexibility for future development. Vauxhall Motors was the first car manufacturer to introduce Oracle as standard in all Vectra GLS, Sri & CDX models. Trafficmasters other recent agreements include the development of RAC Travel News in partnership with the RAC and ITN, which provides a unique travel service to broadcasters incorporating the specialist skills of each of the partners and supplying live traffic information to independent radio stations.
